How do you notify the VA when you want to use your GI Bill entitlement?

When you are ready to enroll in higher education courses you may be wondering how you use your GI Bill benefits. You want to get your education paid for through your GI Bill entitlement and you need to know how to inform the VA that you want to use your GI Bill benefits and inform the institution of instruction that you are using the GI Bill to pay for your educational training. VA Loans are also a great benefit afforded to veterans through the VA.

Here are some of the facts you need to know about the GI Bill benefits and how to use them when the time comes:

• If you are attending a college, a university, vocational schools, flight schools, correspondence schools, taking independent study or internet courses, or enrolled in high tech training your school is responsible for reporting your enrollment to the VA in order for your GI Bill benefits to be used to pay for your education. This means that you have to be sure to tell your educational institution before you enroll that you are planning to use GI Bill benefits to pay for tuition and find out the process of enrolling so that the proper channels can be taken between the VA and your place of educational enrollment.
• If you are planning to use your GI Bill benefits to pay for on-the-job training or an apprenticeship the company that will be employing you is required to contact the VA. This means that you need to notify the employer that you plan to use GI Bill benefits to pay for your training so that they can follow the guidelines that are necessary for tuition funding through the VA.
• If you are planning to use your GI Bill benefits to pay for certification tests or licensing you will pay for the test yourself, inform the VA of your test enrollment and then give the VA your receipt, your test results, and permission in writing for the VA to view the test records in order to confirm that you took the test and you will be reimbursed.
• If you are planning to use your GI Bill benefits to pay for entrepreneur classes the organization that you are taking the class through must inform the VA that you are enrolled in order to get the class paid for.
