Readjustment
Counseling Service -
The Readjustment Counseling Service
is provided by the Department of Veteran Affairs for veterans and their
families in their post-war adjustment. A part of the RCS is that
of Bereavement Counseling for
parents, spouses, and children of Armed Forces personnel who dies while
serving their country. This service applies to all branchs of
service, including reservists and National Guardsmen. Bereavement
counseling includes a board range of transition services,
including outreach, counseling, and referral services to family members
in coping with the emotional and psychological stress after the death
of a loved one.

The Values of the Vet Center are:
Trauma Counseling, Special Populations, Networking, Wellness,
Leadership, Management, and Transitional Assistance.
Veterans, and family members of veterans, wishing to receive these
benefits must meet a few eligibility
requirements, that specifically look for when the veteran was on
active duty. A veteran that served in any war zone (World War II,
Vietnam War, Korean War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, Persian Gulf,
Somalia) is eligible. Veterans who served during the Vietnam War
era, not in the war zone may also be eligible. Veterans of at
least one of the following Operations in the former Yugoslavia,
including naval vessels in the Adriatic Sea, are eligible:
Operation Joint Endeavor, Operation Joint Guard, and Operation Joint
Forge. Veterans of both sexes, serving in all eras are eligible
for sexual trauma and harassment counseling.
Most recently, the RCS expanded it eligibility to make veterans who
serve or have served in military expeditions around the world to combat
terrorism on or after September 11, 2001.
