Benefits
for returning Service Members -
For servicemen coming back from service, including Operation
Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), their are
several benefits provided to these veterans by the Department of
Veterans Affairs. For Veterans and their families looking to keep
up to date as to what health benefits are available to them, the VA has
established a new on-line health portal. The HealtheVet web
Portal provides information and all the tools necessary for veterans to
receive the best health care possible. Some of the other benefits
offered by the VA include:

* Compensation and Pension -
Includes Disability Compensation and Pension Benefits, Death Pension
Benefits, Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, and Parents Dependency
and Indemnity Compensation. After a veteran has passed away,
Burial and Plot-Interment Allowances and a Burial Flag are provided by
the VA.
* Education - The G.I. Bill
* Home Loan Guaranty
* Vocational Rehabilitation and
Employment - Benefits include rehabilitation counseling and
employment advice for veterans who are disabled and in need of help
readjusting after their term of service is up.
* Insurance - VA Life Insurance
Program for disabled veterans.
* Burial - Includes burial
benefits from the National Cemetery Administration, burial flags, and
Burial Allowance Benefits.
* Women Veteran Benefits -
The Center for Women Veterans.
* Health and Medical Services -
includes medical care for Combat Theater Veterans, as well as those who
did not serve in a Combat Theater
* Special Health Benefits Programs for
Veterans of Operations Enduring Freedom / Iraqi Freedom -
benefits include health care in treatment for exposure to Agent Orange,
depleted Uranium, Ionizing radiation and Project SHAD.
* HealtheVet Web Portal - VA's
NEW health portal has been developed for the veteran and family -- to
provide information and tools to enable one to achieve the best health.
* Civilian Health and Medical Program
of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA) - CHAMPVA is a
federal health benefits program administered by the Department of
Veterans Affairs. CHAMPVA is a Fee for Service (indemnity plan)
program. CHAMPVA provides reimbursement for most
medical expenses - inpatient, outpatient, mental health, prescription
medication, skilled nursing care, and durable medical equipment
(DME). There is a very limited adjunct dental benefit
that requires pre-authorization. CHAMPVA is available to
certain veteran's family members who are not eligible for TRICARE.
* Individual State Benefits -
Many States offer various benefits for veterans.
